The synthesis and properties of the acyl phosphates of some higher fatty acids.

In preceding communications from this laboratory (1,2) on the activation of fatty acid oxidation by adenosinc t,riphosphate, a working hypothesis on the nature of this activation was elaborated. This hypothesis suggested the possible intermediate formation of carboxyl phosphates of the fatty acids to account, for the necessity of adenosine triphosphate in fatty acid oxidation. The subject] of this paper is the synthetic preparation of the higher fatty acid phosphates, which will allow an csperimental trial of these compounds as intermediates both in fatty acid oxidation, as mentioned above, and also in connection with Lipmann’s suggestion (3) that they may be intermediates in t,he synthesis of the glyceride bond according to the eqliat)ion
